Jailbreak Keycard Guide
Every reliable way to get a card—and what doors it actually opens.
A keycard is the small plastic pass that unlocks Jailbreak’s restricted doors—most famously the Rising City Bank entrance, plus prison gates, police stations, military gates, Oil Rig rooms, and the Cargo Plane top hatch. Lose it on death or arrest, so treat every card as temporary inventory. This guide lists every practical obtain method, how to keep the card long enough to rob, and which doors matter for criminals versus curiosity explorers.
Pair with How to Rob for Bank vault layouts, Escape Prison for card-powered prison exits, and Police so you understand why officers notice pickpockets. Mansion uses invites, not keycards—see Mansion.
What a keycard does
Criminals and prisoners use keycards to open:
- Rising City Bank keycard door (core money use)
- Prison gates, watchtowers, gate control, gun shop, and police station interiors
- Rising City / Crown City police stations and security office
- Military Base gates
- Oil Rig rooms that require card access
- Cargo Plane top hatch when you need that entry path
Police keep working keycard access for their own stations even after you steal a copy—pickpocketing does not delete their ability to open doors.
Method 1 — Pickpocket police
Sneak behind an officer and hold E (or mobile equivalent) to pickpocket. Outcomes rotate between keycard, pistol, and rarely a donut. Successful pickpockets mark you guilty, so expect an instant hunt.
Tips:
- Prefer busy Prison yards or city sidewalks where cops stand still.
- If you pull a pistol instead, the officer was likely already odd-pickpocketed—consider fighting for a drop or finding another cop.
- Officers get a notification that you stole from them; relocate immediately.
- Do not pickpocket in the open Bank plaza if you already hear sirens.
Method 2 — Kill cops for drops
Down an officer and interact with the drop. There is roughly a 25% chance to see a keycard among pistol-heavy drops. This is louder than pickpocketing and paints a bounty on you, but it works when every nearby cop is already alert.
Clear the body quickly—other criminals will yoink the card. Pair kills with an escape car facing away from the fight.
Method 3 — Cargo Plane crates
During the Cargo Plane robbery, inspect crates after takeoff. Most crates give cargo loot; one crate in the set grants a keycard instead. You can still secure a card even if you already collected a money crate, depending on inspect order—listen for the distinct keycard sound.
Plane schedules are sparse compared with Jewelry, so treat this as a bonus card source while you are already flying the heist for Hyper Blue or cash. Details overlap How to Rob moving-heist notes and Hyperchrome color maps.
Method 4 — Oil Rig floor card
On the Oil Rig, the dual-lever room path (needs two players) leads to a chamber where a keycard sits on the floor. Grab it to unlock other card doors on the rig (rooms that hold extra oil value and turret shutdowns). If you arrived without a card, prioritize that room before leaving the platform.
Solo players should call a partner or wait for a public duo—lever doors will soft-lock your card hunt.
Method 5 — Rusty donut trade (Prison)
Inside the Prison, the inmate NPC Rusty can exchange a donut (cafeteria / found) for a chance at a keycard. This is the AFK-friendly option when you are stuck inside with no cops to pickpocket. Odds are not guaranteed every trade—budget a few donuts.
Use the card on prison gates or store it for a Bank run after you escape via Escape Prison routes.
Keeping the card (until you don’t)
You lose the keycard on death or arrest. Practical habits:
- Drive Bank immediately after obtaining a card; do not tour the map first.
- Avoid pointless gunfights on the Jewelry roof while a Bank card sits unused.
- If police swarm Bank, abort and preserve the card for the next open window rather than dying in the vault.
- Remember Mansion invites are a different item—do not confuse inventories mid-elevator.
Bank: the main reason you care
Rising City Bank still teaches the classic card door → randomized vault → laser/bomb layout loop. Scout exits before you swipe. After loot, cash in per on-screen rules and rotate—full Bank steps stay on How to Rob.
Keycards also let you raid station armories for guns mid-escape, but the highest EV use for most criminals remains Bank access plus targeted prison shortcuts.
Police perspective (know thy enemy)
Officers reading this should expect card theft near spawns. Face walls, move after chats, and taser anyone lingering behind you—see Police. Crime keycards (frisk items) are a different tool used by cops on arrested criminals; do not confuse them with the criminal Bank card.
Session checklist
- Escape or spawn criminal.
- Obtain card via pickpocket, kill, Plane, Rig, or Rusty.
- Confirm Bank (or target door) is open.
- Swipe, clear vault, leave alive.
- Only then spend time on flex fights or Trading Island trips.

Keycards are common enough that you should never pay real-world value for one, yet scarce enough in a hot lobby that dying with a fresh card stings. Learn all five obtain methods, burn the card on Bank or a planned door, and accept that the next arrest sends you back to pickpocketing practice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Jailbreak players.
What is the easiest way to get a Jailbreak keycard?
Pickpocket a stationary police officer for a common keycard drop, then move before they react.
Do I lose my keycard when arrested?
Yes. Death and arrest remove the keycard, so rob Bank promptly after you find one.
Can Cargo Plane give a keycard?
Yes. One crate in the plane set grants a keycard instead of standard cargo loot.
How does Rusty give keycards?
In Prison, trade Rusty a donut for a chance at a keycard when cops are unavailable.
Is a keycard required for Mansion?
No. Mansion needs invitation letters from airdrops. Keycards are for Bank and other card doors.
Which robbery needs a keycard the most?
Rising City Bank’s main entrance. Full vault steps are in How to Rob.
